Mentoring the Future

I am very proud to part of the New Teacher Center as an eMSS (e-mentor) for new to profession and beginning teachers. I will conclude my 2nd year as a mentor and hope to continue to be involved in this amazing and worthwhile program for as long as I can.

 

This online program provides beginning teachers the chance to receive support from experience teachers in similar content areas and grade levels. Together we engage in weekly discussions, via web post threads, surrounding the most pressing concerns in the classroom. Teachers also connect using email, phone/text, and sometimes Google Hangouts. Throughout the year a mentee will engage in the video observation cycle and we will choose one professional goal to work toward that a mentee will strengthen. 

So far I have been the proud mentor to over a dozen mentees in two years. We have had great successes in goal setting and in student achievement. I love working with my teachers in areas like:
